Crime investigator Emma Price returns in the third novel of her series. Emma knows something bad has gone down when she realizes her boss and old friend, Dawn, is missing. Emma herself has been kidnapped and then has to fight for her life when the kidnappers realize she is not Dawn. Dawn is discovered dead in a sleazy motel room, lying next to a man who has been shot. Murder and suicide? Emma doesn't believe it. Thus begins the frantic search for the truth.

The story jumps from real time to flashbacks frequently in the first few chapters as back-story is introduced. Pay attention. It's worth it. The plot is convoluted and takes many different paths until they converges on the climax, which was a total surprise. Action carries the plot forward at a fast clip. The setting is New York City Brooklyn in particular, with a touch of Hollywood thrown in. An inter-racial relationship keeps Emma on her toes as well as trying to keep on an even keel with her ex. Two children are involved here.

As Emma investigates her friend's death, corruption and duplicity rear their heads. When her lover tries to warn her off, she brushes away his advice, determined to expose the person or persons responsible for Dawn's murder. A foolish move? It's Raining Men is a quick read, because it's hard to put down.
