Multi-millionaire lawyer Andy Carpenter, is wealthy enough to pick and choose his cases. He has to believe in his client's innocence. Though it's not clear cut to Andy that Giant football star Kenny Schilling is innocent of killing Jets player Troy Preston, he takes the case anyway. Sudden Death is the fourth of the series featuring Andy Carpenter.

Andy has gathered an interesting array of satellite personages around himself a secretary who is never on time in the office, a chief investigator with whom he is in love, a bodyguard who could double for a massive column holding up a building, a computer geek who likes to song talk, and a golden retriever, Tara, who is his mainstay. Not to forget his one friend on the police force, Pete (who keeps him up-to-date on local happenings), his journalist contact who could double for Scrooge, and an ex-con whom he rescued from a life sentence.

Throw all these people into the mix and it would be impossible not to come up with a good story. David Rosenfelt has done just that in Sudden Death. After taking on Schilling's case, Andy finds himself moving in dangerous circles. Warring drugs lords, the mob, and flying bullets all seem centered on Andy. His emotional life takes a hit when his girlfriend Laurie attends her fifteenth high school reunion. And while Andy loves the thrill of the courtroom, he is never happy about the quest to prepare his cases. This one is no exception.

The action moves at a good clip. The plot is a humdinger as is the climax. You can't go wrong by bringing Andy Carpenter into your life.
