Beverly Lewis has long been a beloved author of books about Amish life. She started her recipe collection with a selection from her grandmother, Ada Buchwalter, and has lovingly compiled them into this beautiful book. It covers Appetizers to Main Dishes, with many categories of Desserts, as well as a section on Jams, Jellies, and Preserves. Those who have read about the delicious foods in the author's books will be thrilled to make these recipes themselves.

Each chapter starts with a quote from one of Beverly Lewis's books, with a link to the page on which the recipe described can be found. These tempting recipes (over 200 are featured) include Old Fashioned Lemonade, Homemade Amish Bread, Sadie's Beef Stew, Amish Roast, Cherry Cobbler, and Blueberry Pie. Notes, helpful hints, suggestions, and clear directions help to make the cooking experience easier.

These are not fancy recipes, but plain, old-fashioned, delicious foods. One of my favorites is Amish Friendship Bread, which receives rave reviews whenever I make it, as do Amish Haystacks, a main dish that is a staple of the Amish community. No-Bake Granola Bars are a particular hit with my children. This is one cookbook that will be pulled out again and again for time-tested recipes which will be requested often in your family.
