Te Amo, Bebé, Little One follows a baby's first year in verse, through a mother's eyes and love. It begins 'Once upon a springtime morn, / a bouncy, brown-eyed babe was born', and each verse ends with the touching refrain, 'I love you once. I love you twice. / I love you more than beans and rice. / I love you more than rain or sun. Te amo, bebé, little one.'

Maribel Suarez's illustrations add a cheerful Mexican context, and the verses include a few Spanish words and phrases, like 'mariachis' and 'la luna'. We watch baby sitting in the sun, splashing at the beach, sleeping in a crib, bathing, enjoying music, climbing, standing up, walking ... and always growing in size and ability. The ending on the toddler's first birthday is cute and delightful.

If you've had a baby, Te Amo, Bebé, Little One will remind you of the absolute love and surprises of that first year, and the picture book makes the perfect gift for a friend or family member expecting a child.
