Dr. Laura Schlessinger, well-known radio talk show host and therapist, has turned her gaze on wives with The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands. After fielding hundreds of calls from unhappy wives, she has set out to instruct and enlighten women on how to improve their marriages.

In eight chapters, Dr. Laura outlines practical, morally based information to show women the best ways to act and react to their husbands. Covering issues such as busyness, nagging, men's feelings, women's communication, sex, respect, and guy time, readers will find constructive advice on how to change themselves and the way they act around the man they love. Although this is not a religious self-help book, readers will find that Dr. Laura's advice fits in with most conservative religious viewpoints.

Much of what I found here is not new information, but it's presented in a practical way that makes sense. Readers will be able to use the counsel to better their marriages. Dr. Laura uses examples from her radio program that are full of humor and truth, able to hit the point home better than any lecture-style textbook ever could. I saw bits and pieces of myself in some of the women, which will help me to apply the principles to my own life and marriage.

The author's main assertion is that men are basically simple creatures. They need the 'Three A's' - acceptance, approval, and affection. If those three things are met, men are usually satisfied. 'Men are simple. They know it. Women have to learn it if they expect to be truly happy with their man.' If you are unhappy with the direction of your marriage, or simply looking to enhance it, find practical advice in The Proper Care & Feeding of Husbands.
