Surprisingly, it's possible to get a New York style bagel in Eternal, Texas. Unfortunately, the one ingested by Essie Sue Margolis' sister Marla was laced with cyanide. In addition, the rabbi of Temple Rita was killed in a hit-and-run accident. Ruby, the late rabbi's wife, hates to see the bagel shop owner implicated in the death of his customer and throws herself into the investigation. An added bonus to the intriguing life in Eternal, Texas is the intriguing life of the Temple Rita and its new egocentric rabbi.

I learned more than I needed to know about bagels, but discovered that on a need to know basis, bagels are more than the sum of their basic ingredients. They are part and parcel of New York, and as such their lure travels with New Yorkers all over the globe. Whether spread with cream cheese and lox, flavored with raisins and cinnamon, or eaten plain, bagels are part of the American culture. Fax Me a Bagel, a fun, cozy mystery that doesn't stretch credibility, is told with a deep vein of delightful humor.
