This first episode opens on a disturbing call from stalker Anders Jansen, who taunts her about her little sister Thea's disappearance sixteen years before. Shaw believes that he killed Thea. Shaw's obsession with her sister's case has affected her marriage, resulting in separation from her husband (and high school sweetheart) Ryan, and estrangement from her sister. Anders even mentions her two sons in his calls. Beau and Casey live with her along with her father. The stalking escalates. Anders puts a tracker on her car and it becomes clear he's been following her. Later, he follows and harrasses the family in their car. Despite all this and her workload, Shaw keeps digging into what happened to Thea - and she does find answers. Readers are kept wondering, along with Shaw, about Anders' motivation. This continues until the very end, when he holds a family hostage at the old Connolly home - in an explosive and violent finale.
