he lead, Anja, is a healer, who takes different poisons as part of her research into antidotes for what others assume to be incurable. Her father is a gifted merchant. As the story opens, the King shows up unexpectedly to tell her that the rumors that he killed his wife are true and that it was because '
she was cutting our daughter's heart out
' and that Rose died.
N
ow his twelve-year-old daughter Snow is very ill and all the doctors in the kingdom have failed to help her. The King wonders if someone is poisoning her and wants Anja's help. She really has no choice but to agree and he assigns two guards for her protection. They go to Witherleaf where Snow resides. It has many ornate mirrors, brought there by the dead queen.
A
nja finds a link between Snow's illness and an unusual fruit that she eats. Chasing a cat (Grayling has a key role in the story) she falls with it through a glass and into a dangerous mirror world, where she gradually discovers what is making Snow fail. Guard Javier joins her, helps and protects her.
