At Midnight Comes the Cry follows Hid from Our Eyes as the tenth episode in Julia Spencer-Fleming's heartwarming mystery series starring Episcopal rector Clare Fergusson (who is also a National Guard helicopter pilot) and ex-Millers Kill Police Chief Russ Van Alstyne. They now have a baby boy, Ethan.

This episode opens just before Thanksgiving, and the family attends a holiday parade that's disrupted by white supremacists. Clare forms a bond with Meghan, who's married to one of them. She feels that 'if people like us don't talk to people like them, how are they ever going to change?'

Russ had resigned as Police Chief to protect the department but remains close to his previous officers, including Hadley Knox. Between work and child care, she worries about her former partner and lover, Kevin Flynn, who's taken leave from the Syracuse department where he worked, and is missing. Russ decides to look into it.

He and Hadley learn that Kevin had been seeing 'baby assistant attorney' Joy Zhào. She tells them that Kevin is undercover with military types in the Adirondack Park. Clare flies Russ and Hadley up there in a float plane, along with Forest Ranger Paul Terrance, whose uncle has gone missing.

Tension builds until they discover the militia's target - a well attended Hannukah celebration. It takes all of Russ's policing skills and Clare's military background to minimize the damage. As it ends, a new job is suggested for Russ - will he take it? Don't miss this one!
