n Kathryn Purdie's dark fantasy,
The Forest Grimm
'
held the power to grant wishes and make dreams come true
', but only once in a lifetime after the age of sixteen. The magic was bound up in a
Book of Fortunes
. But when someone used the magic badly, to kill, the forest snatched back the book and any villager entering the forest was never seen again.
G
randmère is a seer who can tell fortunes and, sadly, Clara's predicts an untimely death, as did her mother's. Clara is determined to enter the forest, find the enchanted book, lift the curse, and save her mother. Clara and her friend Axel head into the forest (he seeking his fiancée Ella), as does Ella's sister Henni. Perilous adventures abound and love grows between Clara and Axel.
G
randmère warns Clara that those taken by the forest are now evil, but she just can't believe that of her mother. Her fortune does come true, but fate always provides a loophole, and Clara's story is far from over.
