The Emilie Adventures
combines two previous YA steampunk releases -
Emilie and the Hollow World
and
Emilie and the Sky-World
. Teen Emilie embarks on a series of adventures after running away from her home with a very controlling and disapproving uncle and aunt.
E
milie and the Hollow World
is somewhat reminiscent of
Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth
. In it, our young heroine accidentally stows away on the wrong ship. It's attacked just before it leaves (driven by an experimental engine) on an expedition to rescue a Dr. Marlende and his crew, who had journeyed to Earth's interior, the Hollow World.
T
hose aboard include a Lord Engel, Marlende's daughter Vale, young Daniel, and nonhuman Kenar, who came from the interior. When the descent ends, there are attacks on land and sea, reunions, captures, escapes, and treachery before they are able to return to the surface. Throughout, Emilie plays a courageous part and gains Vale's respect and friendship.

Emilie and the Sky-World
, Vale has hired Emilie as her assistant. Daniel takes Emilie to visit his aetheric professor, Dr. Abindon, who is estranged from Vale. She has spotted a worrisome disruption in an aether current, something pushing through into their world. The Marlendes and Lord Engel, with Emilie and Daniel, take a ship into the aetherverse to meet it. This time, it's Emilie's younger brother Efrain who stows away - determined to protect a sister who really doesn't need it.

hey encounter both friendly and hostile aliens. The former is like '
a whole bunch of flowers attached to each other with fireflies and gossamer.
' The latter are disembodied, able to take over other minds. There are separations and reunions, and danger abounds but, as always, Emilie proves her worth, as a valued member of this team of scientist explorers.
