Echoes of the Dead is the fourth in Spencer Kope's Special Tracking Unit series. It features an elite FBI unit that relies on the unusual talent of Magnus 'Steps' Craig. Just a really nice guy, he can see a shine that uniquely identifies individuals on anything they've touched. He can also tell whether or not they are still alive.

Steps is partnered with Special Agent Jimmy Donovan, and they are both backed by intelligence analyst Diane Parker. Steps was labelled the Human Bloodhound by reporter Heather Jennings, but neither she nor anyone outside the unit knows how he does it, and the unit intends to keep their secret.

This time they're assigned to track down four very prominent men who have gone missing from their annual fly-fishing trip in the Sierra Nevada - a congressman, a district attorney, an accounting firm CEO, and a successful hedge fund co-founder. Soon, tortured bodies start to show up - and the murders were gruesome. Can any of the foursome be saved?

Of course, we know the Unit will solve their case, and they do. This episode ends on a message from series nemesis Leonardo - 'DEATH COMES FOR US ALL.' Steps first saw Leonardo's shine in his teens when Leonardo killed a classmate. The next episode should be a doozy!
