The Abduction of Pretty Penny follows The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes as the fifth in Leonard Goldberg's cozy mystery spin on the Holmes/Watson partnership. The first episode introduced widowed Joanna Blalock (a skilled nurse and the daughter of Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler).

Joanna was unaware of her heritage (having been raised by foster parents) when she was pulled into a murder investigation, along with the elderly Watson and his son, Dr. John Watson, Jr.. The latter fell hard for Joanna's looks, intelligence, and forensic talents, an attraction that was reciprocated. They have since married.

This episode opens on a new client, playwright/pub owner Emma Adams. She established the popular Whitechapel Playhouse, currently performing Romeo and Juliet. Juliet (the talented Pretty Penny Martin) has gone missing. Penny was asthmatic and had a stalker, as well as a secret, upper class lover. Joanne deduces that Penny's life is in danger and the game is afoot!

After bodies of two mutilated young women are found in Whitechapel, Scotland Yard consults the Watson trio, fearing a return of Jack the Ripper. Both victims wore the same copper earrings - and five sets were bought from a local jeweler. As the investigation proceeds, their list of suspects grows to include several physicians known to John.

Joanna involves the Baker Street Irregulars to track their suspects, and her son Johnny gets involved as well, 'his life in the balance.' Determined to save him, Joanna offers herself as bait, aided by 'the keenest nose in all London.' This is an appealing series.
