In this eighth in the popular series for readers aged eight to twelve, Emily Windsnap is traveling home from her previous adventure with her boyfriend Aaron (who is also half mer), when their cruise ship is boarded by pirates!

The episode opens on Emily's tough decision: 'cross the ocean in a magical golden chariot accompanied by dolphins and whales with your dad, or take a luxury five-star cruise with your mom and your boyfriend.' We know which she picks.

The pirates board soon, led by the pirate king, along with his sons Noah and Sam. The two are competing to please their parents. Noah has captured Aaron, to exploit his local knowledge. Emily allies with Sam, in exchange for his help in rescuing Aaron. The contests begin.

Emily befriends Sam and also the girls on his pirate ship. She helps Sam win the next round of the contest, but then her mermaid friend Shona is captured - what to do? Emily dives in to help and by the end, she has also helped Sam to know who he really is and to show his strength.
