Luz Concepcion returns to her homeland of Guatemala to avenge herself on Martin Benavide, who was responsible for the death of her father. In so doing, he destroyed her entire family. Her mother died of a broken heart.

Robert Clement became Luz's resettlement officer when she ended up in the United States. Now she is back in her own country with the resources to make a bomb and to set it off. Unfortunately, Luz would perish with the bomb.

She is hired as a nanny for Cesar, a lonely little boy whose father is an absentee playboy - and whose grandfather is Luz's target. The CIA is involved. Ex-pat painter Evan McManus enters the scene clutching his paintbrushes, wanting nothing more than to paint Luz.

Various men enter the plot; both those who are trustworthy and those as bad as the night is long. Twists and turns in the plot can keep the reader up long into the night. It is worth lost sleep.
