Jazz Ramsey trains cadaver dogs as a volunteer, but has no dog of her own as Kylie Logan's Scent of Murder opens - she's still grieving the loss of her beloved dog Manny, and of her father, a fire captain killed fighting a fire. Jazz lives in Cleveland, and is administrative assistant at an all-girls school, St. Catherine's.

After a friend asks Jazz to work with his cadaver dog, she takes Luther for training to an abandoned building. There, Luther discovers the corpse of a young woman in Goth gear, whom Jazz recognizes as a talented past student at her school, Florie Allen. The fact that the detective assigned to the case is Jazz's ex-boyfriend Nick Kolesov doesn't make Jazz's life easier.

Jazz feels impelled to investigate and follows several threads, including a long standing vendetta between Florie and another student, Grace - they both went on to attend the same art school and continued to fight 'Like the Jedi versus the Empire.' Jazz also finds that Florie was desperate for money - was she a blackmailer?

While Jazz digs into Florie's life, she also has frequent contact with Nick, and the attraction is still there. As we expect, Jazz does solve the case, and is given a very special gift. I enjoyed the cadaver dog focus as well as the leads in this new series, and look forward to more.
