Bats in the Belfry
takes place mostly in Regent's Park, in a tonier section of London in the 1930s. The mystery was first published in the 1930s and, unfortunately, faded from sight.
ritish Library Crime Classics brought it back to light and, with Poisoned Pen Press, presents it once again. Bruce Addleton, once a favorite of the reading public, has hit a new low and can't seem to write his third mystery. His wife can't forgive his failure and they live separate lives in different parts of their house.
ruce is called away to Paris suddenly and then vanishes, leaving his suitcase and passport! Those things are found in a crumbling artist's studio in Notting Hill. An Inspector MacDonald and a mysterious blackmailer pop up in the plot.
he English do have a way with mysteries. And this is another fine one, written during the Golden Age of crime writing.
