In the dead of winter, forensic handwriting expert Claudia Rose heads to Maine to put her hands on a manuscript about convicted female serial killer Roxanne Becker (yes, women can be serial killers, if so inclined, but they are few and far between).

Professor Madeleine Maynard is the author of this manuscript and has herself been murdered. Rose is now in Maine to authenticate her work. Using handwriting analysis, Rose will prove that this handwritten non-fiction work was penned by the murdered woman. I must say, the information gleaned from this thriller is vastly intriguing. Not only can a person's personality be shown in their handwriting but also their feelings at the time their words were written. This little-known talent figures prominently in Written Off by Sheila Lowe.

Claudia puts herself in jeopardy by staying in Maine, in the environs of mentally unstable grad students at the school where Madeleine was murdered. Written Off is the seventh Forensic Handwriting mystery. If this one appeals to you – which I am sure it will – you have six previous novels to enjoy, featuring Claudia Rose.
