Lost Luggage by Wendall Thomas is a delightful tale of travel – of those who indulge in it and those who make it happen for others. This novel also brings to light the plight of animals some travelers abduct to sell illegally to collectors of endangered wild animals.

Cyd Redondo is a Brooklyn travel agent who has not ever been on one of the tours she sells to senior citizens for her family's agency. She gets a chance to shepherd a group and jumps at it. Of course, what can go wrong, does.

Cyd has invited a new male friend to accompany her on a safari. Arriving in Africa, they find their luggage is lost and two of her elderly charges are in jail for trying to smuggle numerous endangered animals out of the country! Five hundred thousand dollars worth!

The trip and Cyd's solutions to the various dire problems that occur are well worth the read. Cyd is a great character from a large Italian family. She is a regular Girl Scout without the obligatory badges. She might tremble a little at a job that must be done, but she gets it done and manages to get members of her group out of trouble. I've been a member of travel groups a number of times but never encountered the challenges that Cyd must untangle.

Lost Luggage is a fun read that incorporates a well worded plea to help stop the trade in exotic animals.
