Greer Donner is only eight years old when he falls from his horse in the Washington wilderness. As the horse startles and runs away, Greer realizes the noises he hears are the cries of a woman being severely beaten.

With the beater's own gun, Greer insists that the woman be allowed to leave the clearing in the wild. But the man forces a promise from Greer that he tell no one about what he saw. If he does, the man threatens to kill Greer's whole family!

Measure of the Moon relates the story of a brave little boy who has a terrible secret that he can't share. How he handles this secret is the basis for the plot of this engaging novel that is chock full of suspense and wonderful characters. As readers, we empathize with Greer as we feel rage at what this secret is doing to a sweet child, the youngest of a large family.

We tremble with Greer as we silently praise his family for doing what they think is best for the boy. At least what the experts suggest. Are they right? Or well off base?

Measure of the Moon is well-written with many spots that will tug at your heartstrings. You will fall in love with Greer a child determined to protect his whole family. You will even enjoy the Donner family's method of naming their offspring. It's a wonderful read that you will not want to miss.
