Cat DeLuca's Pants on Fire Detective Agency in Chicago is doing a thriving business and she still gets goose bumps when thinking of her FBI boyfriend Chance Savino. She has a vast Italian family that drives her to distraction but whom she loves to death.

Her mother's latest venture is to get Cat married, which is very much against Cat's wishes. The woman is organizing a scheme to cater a cruise complete with cake, champagne, and a hijacked priest. Everything seems to come apart when Captain Bob's dog is pet-napped! In trying to locate the dog, Cat discovers a terrible secret from the past a decades-old robbery and an unsolved murder.

Cat DeLuca is a wonderful character. She knows so many off-beat persons that her life could never be dull. Instead it's hectic, intriguing, terrifying as well as wonderful when she is in Chance's arms.

Author K.J. Larsen has an engaging sense of humor that brightens many a page of There Was a Crooked Man. She is an aficionado of high priced high heels and teeters on those stilettos as she tracks down a dognapper and a killer. The real trouble here is that the killer is tracking Cat down too! Delightful book.
