The Dead Hand is what lawyers call a pronouncement from the grave when a person tries to regulate the distribution of holdings even from his or her final resting place.

St. Louis lawyer Rachel Gold has complicated last wishes, which must be sorted out, to deal with. Litigation has already started between the dearly departed's first and second wives as well as well, it is a bit unusual when a baby is born eighteen months after its deceased father's death!

The Dead Hand by Michael A. Kahn proves to be a complicated tale of courtroom scenes and an even more complicated group of characters all of whom want a piece of a very big pie.

It is full of complicated reasoning and lots of legal information, which baffled me from the start, but was still interesting to read. A good sense of humor sneaks in there once in a while. This is the tenth in the Rachel Gold series and Kahn is an accomplished writer.
