The illicit trade in exotic and endangered species of wild animals has provided the criminal element with money beyond anyone's dreams. Law partners Michael Knight and Lex Devlin fall into a conflict between two Puerto Rican crime gangs involved in this nasty business. And the Italian Mafia wriggles its way into the action.

Michael's cousin is accused of throwing a horse race, even though the rider's brother was killed during the race. While trying to have the charges dropped, they discover the illegal smuggling of wild animals into the United States. A large proportion of these poor creatures die in transit. Even with great losses in the number of captives, the money that exchanges hands is beyond belief. This fact is not just a part of the story. The trafficking of animals and birds, as well as human beings, is very real.

Fatal Odds by John F. Dobbyn, which combines the reality of smuggling wild and endangered animals into the United States along with horse races being fixed, is an exciting thriller that will keep you reading far into the night. Don't miss this one.
