Lie in Plain Sight is the third (following Once Upon a Lie and Lies That Bind) in Maggie Barbieri's cozy mystery series starring driven baker Maeve Conlon. Maeve had a hard childhood after her mother died, despite the loving care of her police officer father Jack. Their extended Irish American family was severely dysfunctional.

In this episode, Maeve continues to run her bakery (The Comfort Zone) with the help of her best friend Jo (now a new mother). Her daughter Rebecca is safely off to college, but teen Heather still challenges her mother at every turn. And, as before, Maeve becomes obsessed with a mystery.

Complicating Maeve's life is a brief fling with her ex, that becomes widely known. And her current relationship (with detective Chris Larsson) is rapidly cooling. She hires a woman, Trish, who steals from her and then is blamed when Trish's daughter Taylor goes missing. Maeve being Maeve, that launches her on a mission that gets her into all kinds of trouble.

Luckily, detective Rodney Poole (who knows Maeve's darkest secret) still has her back. And this time, her daughter Heather (who knew Taylor) seems to be involved as well - has she inherited her mom's vigilante gene? Guess we'll just have to keep reading the series to find out.
