No Gun Intended by Zoe Burke is the second in her mystery series starring fledgling PI Annabelle Starkey.

The plot is a good one, the writing carries it well, and the characters ring true until we meet Annabelle's mother. She has a real potty mouth that just doesn't do it for me. Her role in the story works. But I find it hard to accept that everyone ignores her foul mouth. Wouldn't you think her daughter and husband would censure her for not being more socially acceptable?

Annabelle travels to Portland, Oregon to visit her parents who have recently moved there. While in baggage retrieval, Annabelle's backpack is switched for someone else's. This one contains a gun that the Portland police believe was used in a crime. Annabelle is, at first, thought to be the gun owner. Her parents jump in to help.

Annabelle is not the most agile of people and gets herself into all sorts of scrapes. Fortunately, she has an understanding boyfriend in retired cop Mickey. That helps.
