Here's a lovely coffee table book (aimed at younger readers, but really for all ages) - Legends, Icons & Rebels: Music That Changed the World presents 'twenty-seven legends, mixing musical styles, eras, and personalities.' Along with 27 short profiles of these famous artists, the book offers 2 CDs showcasing some of their music.

The volume opens with Chuck Berry ('The Father of Rock and Roll'); Johnny Cash ('The Man in Black'); Aretha Franklin ('The Queen of Soul') and the Beatles ('The Fab Four'). It concludes with Mr. Smooth, Nat King Cole; Stevie Wonder ('Eighth Wonder of the World'); and The Poet, Bob Dylan. Along the way, we're introduced to such greats as Louis Armstrong, Joni Mitchell, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, and The Beach Boys. At the back is a timeline of these musicians and a list of what's in the accompanying CD collection.

This is a remarkable book that would make a very welcome gift for any young musician or music lover among family and friends.
