The Shadow Of Seth: A Seth Anomundy Murder Mystery
Poisoned Pen, 2015 (2015)

eth Anomundy is a rather regular high school student living an extraordinarily irregular life. Seth and his mother live in a rough neighborhood in Tacoma, Washington. No surprise, money is tight for this cleaning lady and her teenage son. Seth does what he can to help: acts as sparring partner at his mother's on-again, off-again boyfriend's gym, helps at friend's restaurant, and delivers clocks for repairman Nadel.
ne day, out of nowhere, the popular and wealthy Azura Lear takes an interest in Seth. And so begins the trouble. The unlikely pairing of the rich girl and poor boy puts Azura's father on edge. He even hires Azura's jock friends to beat Seth up in order to intimidate him away from Azura.
n the midst of Seth's trouble with Azura, his mother shows up dead. What first appears as suicide is later deemed to be homicide. However, the Tacoma cops could seemingly care less about the murder of a lower class unknown woman who is probably a drug addict anyway. But Seth, against warnings, takes matters in his own hands and seeks out his mother's murderer.
n interesting murder mystery that teenage boys and girls alike will enjoy, the captivating story finds Seth at the heart of the mystery, the hunter becoming the hunted. The rough characters are delightfully balanced by the Lears and the main plot is nicely balanced by surprising sub-plots.
found the story interesting and captivating, especially the more I got into the book. However, I do find Seth's situation and story to be somewhat unbelievable and unrealistic, but then, this is a fictional work and the creativity of the story is entertaining.
