'Meet Monty, King of the Jungle,
Monty loves his long, curly,
beautiful mane.
No one else has a mane quite like his.
Monty thinks it's magnificent.
'

Yes, Sir! This lion is quite the fellow and he even lets his friends, a group of meerkats, groom his lovely golden mane. Sometimes they mess it up, though, so Monty has to put a stop to their well meaning attempt at hairstyling.

This vain lion then heads to the local watering hole to wash his mane and also admire his image in the water. AND that's when he gets into a lot of trouble. A new friend flatters the silly lion, but this creature really has something else in mind ... a quick meal!

I'll let you see how Monty extricates himself from this dangerous situation and how he also decides that perhaps his meerkat buddies are far more fun to be with than that big, green critter floating in the waterhole!

This is a fun picture book with a good message about not only vanity but also friendship. A few parts of it might be a bit scary for very young children, so use this with the two and up group of readers.
