The Perfect Game by Leslie Dana Kirby is the perfect book. Great plot. Real-life characters. Story of a courtroom battle told from the prosecutor's side rather than from that of the defense. Refreshingly new and exciting. It's hard to believe this is a debut novel for Kirby.

Lauren Rose moved to Phoenix to begin her residency in emergency medicine. She has a very glamorous sister, Liz, who is married to a baseball superstar. Lauren is fortunate that Liz also lives in Phoenix. Liz lives a luxurious life with all the accoutrements that money can buy. However, she is found beaten to death in her home!

At first, it seems that the investigating officers are looking at Lauren for the vicious attack. Liz was Lauren's big sister, to whom she was very close. It was hard enough to process Liz's death, but to be accused of murdering the most important person in her life was more than Lauren could bear.

Then all eyes turn to Liz's philandering husband and he is put on trial. The Perfect Game proves exciting enough up to this point, but the trial energizes the story line and it became even harder to put this book down. The trial is dubbed The Trial of the Millennium. The scandal and celebrities are written about in the press – each trying to out-scoop all the others with the story of the era.

I read this book in a twenty-four hour period - and loved every moment of it.
