Dinah Pellerin is living in Berlin with her boyfriend Thor. She is teaching Native American culture at the university. Her American Seminole mother Swan appears on the scene. She plans to blackmail a German tax dodger.

Germans have had a century-long fascination with the American Wild West and American Indians. Some of them dress up as Indians and take Indian names. The Der Indianer Club invites Swan to a powwow. She hopes to meet her blackmail victim there. She is a bit too late. The man is killed and scalped! Of course, Swan is a suspect. Dinah decides to help her mother prove her innocence, hoping her efforts don't uncover some things she would rather no one else know about – especially the I.R.S..

Where the Bones Are Buried by Jeanne Matthews is the fifth in the Dinah Pellerin international mystery series. It is another good one. I was fascinated with the plot, including pseudo American Natives who speak with a German accent. Matthews' books have always intrigued me. The characters are ones you love to read about. Imagine Swan's dead ex-husband's former wife and Swan traveling together! They could never speak together without arguing.

I loved the inclusion of a wayward teenager – a ward of Dinah's – who can't stop lying no matter how hard she is pressed. We, as readers, benefit from Matthews' travels around the world. Keep traveling – and writing - Ms. Matthews.
