Poor Mildred. Wherever she goes mayhem and misfortune seem to follow. Not the brightest of students and a bit of a klutz, Mildred is actually looking forward to going back to school for the summer term at Miss Cackle's Academy.

Why would anyone look forward to going back to school? Well, Mildred has come up with a wonderful, brilliant project over the holiday and cannot wait to share it with her classmates and Professor Hardbroom.

Mildred has even more good luck when she gets to a pottery class and creates a lovely coil pot. For once, the studious, perfect Ethel is not the best! Ethel, mortified that Mildred, of all people, has outdone her, wants to get back at Mildred.

And that is just what Ethel does. She even almost gets Mildred expelled! How will Mildred survive this bout of bad luck? Even her friends Maud and Enid can't help her. But Mildred soon learns that help comes from unexpected places and sometimes you just have to hang in there during difficult situations.

This author illustrated chapter book is perfect for the young reader. It's full of good advice, and young readers will learn what kinds of trouble lying and stealing will get you into and that perseverance through tough times can really pay off.
