Dog is convinced he has everything he needs in his little blue suitcase. There's a pinecone, a rock with a hole in it, some leaves, a good stick, a soft feather and a nice big, shiny red button. What more could a dog want?

At night Dog always sleeps on top of his blue suitcase. One morning he is surprised to discover that a little mouse has shared that bed with him. The two play a game of hide-and-seek but when the game is over, Mouse goes on his way.

Suddenly the woods are too quiet and Dog doesn't feel quite right. Not even the special things in his suitcase make him feel better. That's when he decides to try to find Mouse. When the two meet up, Mouse agrees to help Dog find that missing something that will make him feel better.

After a bit of a search Dog realizes that it is being with Mouse that makes him feel better. Dog needs a friend. Mouse also seems to need a friend. Guess what? It looks like they have both now found a special friend and will be very happy.

Sometimes we don't realize how important friendship is. This cute picture book makes the point that a good friend is as much of a treasure as are inanimate possessions.

This is a wonderful story for children two years of age and older. Share it with your child or grandchild and make a point of talking about what makes a good friend too!
