I really like Brian Floca's unique approach to this picture book. First, he introduces the five people (male and female) who operate these five vehicles. Then he shows each driver and the truck he/she drives and gives one or two characteristics of the truck. One is 'large and heavy' while another is 'long and straight'.

The next step is picturing each truck and driver engaged in its special task at the airport. One truck extends its box up to the door of the plane, where food and beverages are loaded on, while another takes the baggage to the plane, and a third vehicle with a conveyer belt moves the luggage into the plane's body.

When all the trucks (vehicles might be a more accurate term) have completed their tasks, the plane is ready to take off. The only vehicle left out is the fuel truck, which is a curious omission, but not a major problem.

This would be a perfect book to give to a child before his/her first flight. Then the child can look for these vehicles working in the loading area at the airport. Any youngster fascinated by trucks will be enthralled with the contents of this well conceived picture book.
