A bank robbery in little Wagon Mound, New Mexico brings Dan Mahoney, investigator for United Life and Casualty, to discover if, indeed, a five-hundred thousand diamond and sapphire necklace was stolen from a safe deposit box in the small town's bank.

What's unusual about the theft is that instead of someone running into the bank screaming 'Give me all your money,' the thief or thieves tunneled into the bank and wiped out a number of boxes. And the necklace in question is a family heirloom and is supposed to have survived the sinking of the Titanic!

Dan begs a ride from on old man in an older truck when his Jeep overheats and ends up in an accident - killing the old man and putting Dan in the hospital. On looking into the cause of the crash, Dan discovers the accident was staged, meant to do him in, not the old man. When the bank manager is found hanging from the bank's chandelier, indicating a guilty conscience, Dan is sure that more is going on than a bank robbery.

When his girlfriend Elaine disappears, Dan is sure he is right in his assumption that the necklace is not the only target of the break-in.

Rollover by Susan Slater moves along nicely, never letting the reader take a breath before the next crisis. I do like the characters who seem very comfortable in their parts. The plot is finely honed by an author who has a number of books to her credit, including The Ben Pecos series. This is good summer reading.
