This Early Reader introduces some of the animals of Buffin Street. In this adventure, Lola, a pampered cat, is fed up with her usual cat food. 'I am sick and I am tired of this same old stuff…There has to be better food out there somewhere and I'm going to find it.'

So off Lola goes looking for something more appetizing to eat. She visits a number of her friends, but what they have in their bowls doesn't look much better. Finally the search takes Lola to the alley behind Bert's Beanery where an irresistible smell coming from a waste bin attracts the cat.

'Wowee!' said Lola, cramming her face with food. 'This tastes brilliant! I haven't eaten anything this good in years.'

At the conclusion of this tale there's a test which the reader can take to see how much he or she remembers about what was just read. This is a nice way to work on retaining the information featured in the story, which is as important as being able to read the words.

Since this little, well illustrated book is over 70 pages in length, it would work best with a child who has moved on beyond basic reading. The text isn't too difficult, but this is a sustained story with a clear storyline and multiple animal characters.
