Foodies and those interested in possibly pursuing a career in the culinary arts will enjoy So You to Be a Chef? The chapters cover a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to: Choosing a Career in the Culinary Arts, Cooking for Many, and Cooking for Few, as well as Careers in the Media.

Author J.M. Bedell has included profiles of those working in the culinary arts and even includes some of their recipes, such as food photographer Penny De Los Santos' recipe for savory oatmeal. There are also fun quizzes to take to test your food knowledge.

The tips given don't just involve food preparation. Sure, there are useful suggestions on how to make a great sauce or garnish, but that's not all! You'll also learn how to review restaurants or beautifully photograph your culinary masterpiece, either for a career or just to show off to your friends on Facebook.

Although I am no chef or foodie, I still enjoyed perusing this book. I had no idea just how many careers are involved in the culinary arts. I also picked up some interesting trivia. For example, should it ever appear as a question on Jeopardy!, I now know that bananas have a blue hue when grown under ultraviolet light.
