This lovely picture book tells the story of a little girl named Amy who makes her first visit away from home when she goes to stay with her grandmother for three days. Although she definitely is enthusiastic about the sleepover at her grandmother's house, Amy also decides she needs a small safety net to ease any fears she might have about being away from her mother and little brother for such a long time.

As she packs, Amy collects three of her best things to take with her. Into her bag go the small rung that lies by her bed, a little wooden horse and a small sail boat.

All goes well when Amy stays with her grandmother except each night the little girl wakes up suffering from a bit of anxiety because she isn't at home with her mom and brother. How each of these best things helps Amy overcome her fear and loneliness is so special, I'll let you discover for yourself what transpires each evening.

A very creative and beautifully illustrated, magical, picture book, this is one of those special stories that perhaps should be read by any youngster who might be about to experience his or her first stay away from home. Not only can this be an exciting time, but for many children it can also be a time of uncertainty and rather stressful. Enjoy this book together and suggest your child, like Amy, take a couple of special things along to make that connection with home and reassure him/her that everything is OK.
