I lived in Texas for a year once upon a century ago. I also had the good luck to spend a month in Tuscany with a dear friend. I have to admit that was also a good bit of time ago.

A Texan in Tuscany by Cash Nickerson comprises a short (100 pages) series of essays on Nickerson's thoughts and epiphanies as he took his Texas background with him to spend some time with his wife in the gentle hills of Tuscany. He delights in the differences in both food and sayings which somehow force him to see the world in a different light. He has also changed his feelings about wine and fell in love with those of Tuscany.

He more or less began putting his meandering thoughts down on paper. He began to see 'new connections between people and things, cycles and trends, and history and the future'. Someone revealing his ponderings often helps us to do some pondering on our own.
