Celebrating such firsts as the first smile, blowing a kiss, crawling, and making a snow angel, the events the author touches upon are moments that parents remember and cherish. But the message at the end of the book is also important. 'One day there may be a second – or a third - to sleep in the basket with the yellow ribbon wound round. But you will always be the first.' This would be the ideal picture book to introduce into a family if another child is expected. Sometimes an only child needs reassurance that he or she will still be an important member of the household after the new arrival appears on the scene.
