In his North American debut, international bestselling author Liad Shoham, the Israeli John Grisham, brings Tel Aviv to our shores. And it's about time. Lineup, a compelling and exciting mystery and the first of his novels to be translated, introduces Detective Eli Nachum. Nachum wants to wrap up a high profile rape case. He's worried about his career.

The rape victim's father is more concerned about the effect the rape has had on his daughter and wants fast closure for her. He targets Ziv Nevo, the man he is certain is the rapist. But when Nevo is brought to the precinct for questioning, the reader is made aware that he might not be the culprit. Then why was he at the scene? Does Nevo have something that he wants to hide? It seems he'd rather plead guilty to rape than have his true objective brought to light.

Lineup gives a tour of a neighborhood of Tel Aviv. It also portrays a set of characters who all act to better their own positions. Except for Detective Nachum. He's a stand-up kind of guy. He wants the truth to come out. But can he make that happen?

Lineup is a nicely convoluted legal thriller and Liad Shoham's novels can climb onto my book pile any time. This was a really good read. Highly recommended and an author worth following. Let's hope that more of his work is translated soon.
