However, it soon becomes clear that this time, Tubbs might have underestimated his worth to the people he's contracted himself out to. Porter Smalls is running for the Senate and is well ahead in the race until his campaign is sabotaged by child porn discovered on his personal computer. The governor calls BCA agent Lucas Davenport in to find out who's trying to destroy Smalls and how the missing Tubbs might be involved. There's only one catch - Lucas is on his own on this one, nobody is to get a whiff about what's going on, at least until Lucas has uncovered enough to blow the lid open on this latest ugly political scandal. The election is only days away, which gives Lucas precious little time to untangle a growing web of lies, murder, and money, with a lot of political blackmail thrown into the mix. Silken Prey is another top-notch instalment in Sandford's Prey series, with Davenport initially front and centre as sole investigator in this delicate and potentially explosive case. As always the reader knows exactly what's happened to Tubbs and who's responsible and, as always, it's fun to watch Davenport use his very shrewd and often darkly manipulative mind to untangle the whole mess as well as tangle with a villain who's certainly going to show up again in a future book. This is one of the better entries in Sandford's long-running series - don't miss it.
