'Most people with the disease live healthy, happy lives. Lupex, lycan groups claim, is merely a safeguard. Lycan attacks are in fact as uncommon as shark attacks – but in both cases, media attention makes them seem more prevalent than they are ... The Lupine Republic was established in 1948 after nearly two thousand years of dispersal and more than fifty years of attempts to create a lycan homeland. It is located between Finland and Russia.'

With several million lycans living in this isolated region and lupex controlling any nasty urges now, all should be well but it isn't. There's a violent uprising taking place because of the discrimination the lycans have had to endure.

Patrick, a survivor of a bloody attack, and Claire, the daughter of a lycan, are the principle characters in this lengthy (530 pages) fantasy about a world that is literally going to the dogs, or make that going to the wolves!

It's an interesting premise that werewolf aficionados will find entertaining and others might also, depending on their inclinations. The social implications inherent in controlling a population with drugs and isolating them in a remote region is at the heart of this story but, of course, this is about lycanthropes as well.

Given the length of this book, if you find this subject matter the least bit tedious or hard to accept, then skip it. On the other hand, if running with the pack and howling at the full moon sounds like an attractive way to spend a few hours (although these clichés don't really apply), then here's a story you can really sink your teeth into!
