The end of March in Trafalgar, British Columbia, always brings out the last of the skiers, trying to get in a final run or two before spring sets in. The schools have a week off and teachers, students, and parents look forward to some down time.

Constable Molly Smith (named Moonlight by her hippie parents) doesn't get down time. More tourists and skiers mean more patrolling time. To Trafalgar's horror, high school teacher Cathy Lindsay, who lives a quiet life with her husband and dog, is gunned down while walking on a mountain trail.

Was she the target? Could it have been a random killing? Or maybe mistaken identity? Whatever, the town fathers are not happy at having a murder at the tail end of the winter season. Molly's mother Lucky Smith seems to have taken up with the police chief. It's been two years since Molly's father suffered a fatal heart attack. Not long enough as far as Molly is concerned.

It's been five years since Molly's fiancé was stabbed to death. She is enamored of a new man but is reluctant to commit to a long-lasting relationship. Besides, there is another man who is a champion skier. Molly herself once dreamed of entering the Olympics. The two of them have had some great runs down the slopes.

The mystery of Cathy's death lingers in everyone's minds. And makes everyone's heart beat a little faster when out, alone, at night. Molly is no exception. A Cold White Sun by Vicki Delany is the sixth in the Molly Smith, Trafalgar series. It's always good to welcome her back.
