Someone or maybe a group is setting off fire bombs in Chicago using untraceable cell phones to trigger the blasts. Innocent citizens are being injured and killed. The perpetrator is keeping in touch with Chicago homicide detective David Gold, warning him that if a Muslim in jail for killing Gold's partner isn't released with all charges dropped, the bombs will continue to explode.

The FBI and Homeland Security both believe this is a lone wolf. Gold and his new partner aren't sure. They are just trying to stop the terrorist attacks. Gold's girlfriend and her little daughter become targets and Gold is desperate to save them from harm.

Chicago itself is almost as much a part of The Terrorist Next Door by Sheldon Siegel as the bombings. As is usual in most mysteries and thrillers, the different departments battle over jurisdiction. Can't people see that having everyone on the same page is much more productive? Too simplistic, I suppose.

Siegel has seven legal thrillers under his belt. This is the first that takes place in his own hometown of Chicago. Suspense reigns. Tension escalates with each page. The heart-pounding ending will put you on the edge of your seat. Darn good book. I look for the next in this new series with anticipation.
