Puckster's New Hockey Teammate, by Lorna Schultz Nicholson and nicely illustrated by Kelly Findley, is fourth in the Puckster series, aimed at young hockey players and fans (ages 4 to 8).

After Team Canada loses a game (in which poor Francois constantly coughs and sniffles), Puckster spots a panda bear practicing off to the side of the stands. Puckster persuades a nervous Yuan to join the team. They all encourage him to give it his best try. When he actually scores, Yuan agrees that 'Hockey is fun!' As usual in the series, there is more than one sports lesson to be learned from the story (summarized in Puckster's Tips at the back).

There's a fair amount of text in a picture book for younger readers, and in a smaller print than usual, but this will probably not deter small players and their parents from enjoying this inexpensive volume together.
