One of the few international sports that children in many cultures can begin playing at an early age, soccer (or football as it is known in most places other than North America) is seemingly a rather simple game until one begins to understand all its subtle nuances.

This excellent guide suggests ways young players can improve their game. A series of color photos and clear instructions will help the player intent on becoming a better competitor improve his or her passing, defense and goalkeeping techniques.

There are excellent tips here on heading, shielding and dribbling, volleys and swerves, and defending the goal. The author doesn't forget to discuss the rules of the game, team tactics and training practices either. There are also short sections on professional soccer, major competitions, The World Cup and the legends of the game.

Young players, coaches and those interested in the game of soccer will find this an informative and useful book that will enhance the playing and viewing of this international sport.
