ne of the best series of books that explores a host of interesting subjects for young readers, the
I Wonder Why
paperbacks are centered on questions that a child might ask.

Who were Romulus and Remus? Who attacked the Romans with elephants? Where was the world's first shopping mall? Why did people vomit at banquets?

hese and a host of similar questions (along with the answers) offer an introduction to Roman history and culture. Along with the answers to the questions you'll also find cartoon-like illustrations, and boxes that offer interesting facts about the subject.

ome of the interesting tidbits the youngster will pick up reading this book include the fact that wearing a toga was a sign that the person was a Roman citizen. Ordinary folks wore plain white, while senators had purple trim to indicate their lofty status. The emperor's was, naturally, solid purple!
