This time around Davenport has two cases ongoing: a couple of petty thieves rob him of 500 dollars at an ATM while he's out jogging one morning, while the next case proves much more serious. An entire family is found brutally tortured and murdered with the warning We're Back written in blood on the living room wall. Davenport, the DEA, and various other law enforcement agencies, are pulled in to work together and all agree that this one's one of the worst mass murders they've seen. The question is, how did a small time software developer get involved with a ruthless Mexican drug gang?

As the cops work every angle trying to find leads, those who really caused the whole mess are frantically pooling their resources (in this case millions in laundered drug money). But moving that much money without leaving a paper trail takes patience and time, the latter running out fast. One by one the drug lord's assassins track them down to exact their revenge. And once they're done with the thieves, Davenport's family is next on their hit list.

Stolen Prey is another stellar thriller from the mind of Sandford, whose long running Lucas Davenport series only gets better with age. Lucas as always, is sharp as a tack, never shying away from using questionable methods to nail the bad guys – and in this case nail some really, really bad guys. Great dialogue, pacing and secondary characters, plus a plethora of plot twists, will keep you riveted until the final page.
