It is very hard being shy and I know because my name is Poindexter and this book is about how I overcame my shyness.

When my aunts and uncles visited our house, I used to hide under the rug because I was so shy. I also would look at my feet and blush when other animals asked if I wanted to play.

What I usually did was read books. I liked to read and I often read to my stuffed animals. I also liked to go to the library and read too. The librarian, Mrs. Polen, use to let me push the cart around and help her put the books back on the shelves.

Then one day another very shy person, a little turtle, came into the library and Mrs. Polen asked me to help him find a book on How to Make Friends. I was glad to help, Since the turtle couldn't read big words and I could, I also volunteered to read the book to him.

Well, Shelby (that's the turtle's name) and I became friends. This picture book tells all about how that happened and there's another animal in it too, a mole. You'll find out how Shelby and I helped him when he came in looking for a book.

No matter whether you are shy or not, I think you'll like reading about me and my friend Shelby. The two of us now read to my stuffed animals and I really helped Shelby come out of his shell.
