Freelance reporter Robyn Guthrie agrees to complete one of the stories a reporter (who was killed by a hit-and-run driver) had been working on.

What starts out as a simple job with quick pay escalates into the possibility that the dead reporter had been working on something someone else didn't want featured in the headlines. Was the death accidental or a homicide?

Shady land deals crop up, which Robyn can't ignore. Further investigation leads her further and further into a morass from which there seems to be no possibility of survival.

Getting Lucky by DC Brod involves many different factions. Not the least of which is the MOB! There's corruption as well as greed, murder and mayhem. Name it, it's in this tightly written plot that works very well. Brod takes a dim view of pollution and voices her opinions in this fictional story that gets her points across well.

She also has a delightful sense of humor. And after presenting what could very easily be a real problem for all of us, she finishes her tale with a flourish that satisfies those who need closure in mysteries. Of which, I am one. This is her second (following Getting Sassy) in the series. I look forward to more of Robyn Guthrie.
